The Angels designated Hector Carrasco for assignment and called up right-handed relief pitcher Chris Resop from Salt Lake.
The 37-year old Carrasco was struggling this season with a 6.57 era in 29 appearances. Carrasco came to the Angels as a free agent before the 2006 season and had a nice year going 7-3 with a 3.41 era. He was counted on to be a big part of the Angels bullpen this year but, despite numerous outings, never found his stuff. The Angels now have 10 days to find a trade partner or release him outright.
The 24-year old Resop came to the Angels in the trade that sent Kevin Gregg to the Florida Marlins. In 27 games with the Bees, Resop was 1-3 with a 4.57 era. Resop pitched in the majors with Florida in both 2005 and 2006. In 37 appearances he was 3-2 with a 5.63 era.
Resop is not expected to stay long with the Angels as Justin Speier is completing a rehab assignment with Rancho Cucamonga.
