Santana has so-so start

Ervin Santana made his 5th minor league start yesterday and pitched what is technically a "quality start."

Santana pitched 6 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs. He struck out 5, walked 3 and got the win as Salt Lake downed Portland 9-5.

Santana is now 2-1 with a 5.01 era. His next start is scheduled for Friday against Tucson. There is an outside chance that the Angels will call him up to pitch Friday at Boston where the Angels have a double-header, but I think Chris Bootcheck is more likely to start.

Kendry Morales was 4-for-4 with a walk and 2 runs batted in. Tommy Murphy was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 rbi. Reliever Marc Gwyn came into the game in the 9th inning with one out and the bases loaded. He went to a full count on Hiram Bocachica before getting him to hit into a game-ending double play.
