Angels Call Up Matt Brown

The Angels sent Brandon Wood back to Salt Lake City so he could play every day and called up 24 year old infielder Matt Brown.

Matt Brown (6'0" 200 lbs) was hitting .300 with 3 home runs and 22 rbi for the Bees in 110 at-bats. Brown has played mostly third base throughout his career but has become a utility player this year with Wood getting the majority of starts at third. Brown has started games at second base, first base, left field and designated hitter this year.

Brown was signed out of Coeur D'Alene (Idaho) High School in the 10th round of the 2001 draft by the Angels. He spent the entire season last year at AA Arkansas where he hit .293 with 19 home runs, 41 doubles and 79 runs batted in.

Brown had nice numbers in spring training with the Angels batting .353 with 3 home runs in only 17 at-bats. The three long balls tied him for the most by an Angel this spring with Gary Matthews Jr (60 ab) and Casey Kotchman (63 ab).

Brown is not expected to play much for the Angels as he was called up to fill in the Angels need for a backup infielder.

The parade of reserve replacements from AAA will continue as the Angels have six players on the DL who were expected to contribute this season - Maicer Izturis, Justin Speier, Garret Anderson, Howie Kendrick, Juan Rivera and Dallas McPherson.
